presents Pleasant Wimberley, an exhibition of paintings
by Denny McCoy. In these works, bands of color in
varying widths appear to lift off of and recede into
the canvas, sometimes merging over each other or disappearing
completely. These optical fluctuations are created
by the illusionary effects of light and color. Mr.
McCoy received his MFA from Washington University
in St. Louis.
“I have lived in the
Wimberley area of the Texas hill country for the past
two years. The peaceful beauty of this valley and
surrounding areas have wonderfully influenced my work
and the paintings in this exhibition are the result
of living in this quiet and simple environment. It's
not surprising that the meditative nature of my work
would open my eyes to this place and that this place
is best perceived with the same quiet observation.
While living here the land has progressed from being
extremely parched during an exceptional drought to
being inundated with heavy rains over a period of
many months. The colors have been rich and deep. Lushness
pervades. Lucky me.” – Denny McCoy
The gallery will host
a performance by Billy Crockett of Blue Rock Studio
in conjunction with the gallery talk. McCoy's paintings
are best appreciated when the viewer can sit and contemplate
them.
Billy Crockett is a songwriter,
recording artist, music publisher, amateur astronomer
and the creative director of Blue Rock Artist Ranch
and Studios. He has recorded nine solo albums for
Word, Urgent Records and his own label, Walking Angel.
Billy has toured extensively over the past 20 years
and continues to perform concerts in his trademark
style, weaving storytelling, humor and original songs
into memorable encounters.
