Featured
in this exhibition of Janet Kastner’s latest works are a number of
her porcelain sculptures and a selection of her charcoal and acrylic
drawings. This body of work is influenced, as in the past, by
botanical and anatomical subjects; but in contrast to her earlier
pure satin-white sculptures of human organs, bones, and teeth, she
has added textural surface design elements with multiple layers of
sandblasted color which act to further abstract the forms. Kastner
is an associate professor of studio art at UT Austin.

Using only the most essential and
singular of forms, the new paintings and pastel drawings by Naomi
Schlinke take us to a universe that is both playful and enigmatic.
Her otherworldly figures, bathed in their own light, float and move
through a darkness suggestive of undersea or deep space. Schlinke
lives and works in Austin. She has exhibited in galleries in Houston
and San Francisco, at the Dallas Visual Art Center, at the
Contemporary Art Center of Fort Worth, and was included in TFAA’s
New American Talent 2001.
