berman gallery is pleased to present “No One Place”,
a series of new paintings by Austin artist Jimmy
Jalapeeno. He says, “These new paintings are about
using the conventions of landscape painting to create
imaginary sites, most of which could not possibly
exist, but that still seem somewhat real. They are
studies of convergences and rhythms in nature. Dendritic
or branching forms appear not only in trees, but
also in roots and geological formations. Or, the
bed of a dry creek might resemble the surface of
the water that had run through it. Some of these
works have a good deal of ‘landscapeness’ about
them, but some of them are more nearly abstract
and create a struggle to justify themselves as depictions
of ordinary space.” Mr. Jalapeeno has a BA from
the University of Texas, Austin, and an MA from
The University of California, Davis. He has exhibited
throughout Texas.
