d
berman gallery begins its sixth year with a
trio of Austin artists who share the use of
abstract imagery and vivid coloration.
Brad Ellis creates encaustic paintings on canvas
dealing with his “continued interest in
graphic imagery of language as art.” He
employs boldly worked surfaces of wax and pigment,
sometimes over collaged elements. Ellis has
shown recently in solo exhibitions in both Chicago
and Dallas.
Joseph Janson has emerged from his new studio
with a group of oils on panel and tin. Utilizing
geometric grid patterns of various sizes, he
combines botanical and aquatic images with abstract
science fiction-like shapes. Janson lives and
works in Austin.
Janet Kastner has been concentrating her recent
efforts on mixed media works on paper. Mysterious
“words” float behind organic forms
that refer to sea creatures, plant life and
elements of fashion such as ribbons and fabric,
all in a seductively luscious palette. Kastner
is an associate professor in sculpture at the
University of Texas, Austin.
