Artist Statement

My work is the culmination of modern day hunting/gathering and the reclamation of treasure trash. Rummaging through cast-offs; hand-picked collections slowly form and, a year later, a sculpture is complete. Most recently, the arrowhead paper collages have grown from finding my first arrowheads. Finding culture in the soil gives me a richer perspective through which to consider the world – an eroded hillside at the edge of a thrift store parking lot expands my hunting ground. In this process of familiarizing myself with history and pre-history, I ponder mega-fauna, or eating turtle soup 12,000 years ago, or the innumerable uses of knapped flint – which leads me back out to find what has been left behind.
