Hillevi
Baar works primarily with mylar and herculene, thin, translucent plastics.
She carefully creates vibrant patterns in ink on some surfaces, while
others are coated in tranquil, uniform color. She slices, pins, and
twists the mylar into sometimes complex and sometimes gracefully simple
arrangements with an ethereal quality. The apparent vulnerability of
Baar’s materials combines with the way the works interact with
light and shadow to create lushly delicate three-dimensional pieces.
Baar received her MA and BFA at Stephen F. Austin University and lives
and works in Houston. |
