d berman gallery is pleased to present two concurrent shows by Austin artist Lance Letscher.
Index, an exhibit of new collages by Lance Letscher, opens at d berman gallery on Thursday, 9 March, with a reception from 6 - 8 PM, and will continue through 15 April 2006. A gallery talk will be held at d berman gallery on Saturday, 8 April 2006, at 1:00 PM.
Lance Letscher “is not the only artist using cast-off books and papers but he is one of the very few whose modernity supersedes the nostalgia of old materials without sacrificing their elegiac power. Every appropriation of derelict scraps declares a sharp contemporary wit. But in Mr. Letscher’s hands, the declaration rises to a threnody for lives that left no monument, only accumulations of ephemera poised for dispersion. … [His work] … is a roller coaster ride of mood shifts, from playfulness to solemnity. … An exquisite color sense and empathy with his materials create coherence among dissimilar design motifs. These are the twin axes on which Mr. Letscher’s madcap poetry revolves.” - Maureen Mullarkey, The New York Sun
d berman gallery is located at 1701 Guadalupe Street, Austin, Texas 78701. Gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 11:00 - 6:00.
Lists and Poems, Letscher’s word collages from 1996 - 1998, will be also presented by d berman gallery and on display at Gallery 68 at Flatbed Press. After an opening reception on 10 March from 6 - 8 pm, the show will continue through 15 April.
This series of lyrical works on paper implements pieces of foreign literature and their translated counterparts to develop an abstractly poetic atmosphere.
Flatbed Press is located at 2830 MLK Boulevard, Austin, Texas, 78702. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday from 10:00 - 6:00 & Saturday 10:00 - 5:00.
