FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

d berman gallery presents new work by two Austin artists, Faith Gay and Lauren Levy .

In her first two- person exhibition in Austin, Faith Gay continues to explore themes of color and pattern. Utilizing plastic beads which have been arranged in vibrant color configurations or into Rorschach- like abstractions, Gay then melts them and pins them to the wall. In addition, her transparent resin- coated dot- grid works bring to mind the
op art movement popularized in the 60 ’s. Gay received her BFA from The University of Texas in 1995 and has exhibited widely in the state.

Lauren Levy, known primarily for her sculptures created from buttons and wire, traverses new territory in this exhibition with collage works based on the theme of memory. Using old family snapshots scrimmed with small beads of varying degrees of transparency, Levy allows the images in the photos to surface or to nearly disappear. Other collages consist of a delicate cutwork and reassembly technique in which the original photos used in the process seem to be transformed into another
medium altogether. Levy will also include two new button sculptures in this exhibition. Levy has exhibited her work most recently in a one- person show at the Southwest Center for Craft in San Antonio. She also exhibits regularly in Austin and Houston.

This exhibition opens on September 30th with a reception from 6 – 8 PM, and will continue through November 6, 2004. A gallery talk will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 2, 2004 (the first Saturday of the month*).
