My intent in this exhibition has been to shift attention away from the elements that have dominated some of my previous work: intense colors, obsessive surface embellishments, active forms, and return the focus to the drawing allowing the basic images to have power on their own. In these new compositions the blank space of the paper becomes important in much the same way that silence emphasizes the crescendo in a musical composition. Though the drawings may seem spare compared to my previous work, these compositions are more complicated as they allow a much broader conversation with the viewer.
