Artist Statement: Beneath The Palm of My Hand
This body of work represents adaptation
and change. The idea that change can occur slowly at first and then in an instant
be different is interesting. This idea is embodied in the motif of the Shiva
Nataraj, the form of the Hindu God who performs his dance at the moment of the
universe's destruction and in the same moment, the next world's beginning. The
linear quality of time is one that is false but it does lie behind the motif
of the flow of water as a metaphor for the passing of time. My developing interest
in a two dimensional way of working will necessitate some time to let this happen
naturally, with intuition being the driving force of innovation. I don't yet
know if this departure from three dimensional work is temporary or permanent,
but I must embrace it and proceed.
