In Denny McCoy's acrylic
paintings, varying color striations, some in subtle hue gradations
and others in bold contrast, cut vertically through the canvases.
Although the mesmerizing quality of the paintings seems related to
op art, as the bars vibrate against each other and the colors
shift in space, ultimately these works are very different in their
exploration of the nature of vision and the connection between our
eyes and our minds; McCoy's poetic paintings impart a sense of
harmony and draw the viewer into a meditative state. McCoy received
his MFA from Washington University and has exhibited throughout the
United States. He lives and works in Austin.

Troy Woods is a
third generation wood carver from rural Vermont whose smooth wood
and metal sculptures defy the materiality of their medium. The
lustrous maple wood he uses seems to melt and flow in space and to
transform into other substances entirely, producing an appearance of
elasticity. Through sheer craftsmanship Woods creates in each piece
an elegant sense of calm, echoing nature while confounding our
expectations of nature. Woods earned his B. F. A from the University
of Houston, summa cum laude, and has received many awards for his
work. He lives and works in Houston.
