Lance Letscher: Work from the middle ages

Heliocopter Ride, 2011
Collage on Board
44 x 28 inches

D Berman Gallery is pleased to present Lance Letscher: Work from the middle ages, a collection of new collages. Fresh from his successful exhibition in Paris (France), now in Wimberley (Texas) Letscher continues to utilize the paper scraps of our culture to create his particular worlds. In Bookforum, Albert Mobilio writes:
"If the Book is doomed, it could have no better funeral director than Austin-based artist Lance Letscher. He may be inclined to dismember the deceased, but he’ll leave behind a beautiful corpse. The raw materials for his intricate and startlingly colorful collages are mined, by and large, from his favorite Dumpster out back of a local used-book and -record store, where he collects discarded volumes—he’s especially fond of shiny-covered college tomes and beat-up high school books—for his studio-cum–chop shop."
Lance Letscher has exhibited extensively in Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle, as well as in Poznan, Poland; Munich, Germany; and Barcelona, Spain. His work can be found in the collections of the Austin Museum of Art, Austin, Texas; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas; California State University Print Collection, Long Beach, California; Vinson & Elkins Law Firm, Houston, Texas; Dell Children's Medical Center, Austin, Texas; and numerous other public and private collections across the globe.
Letscher lives and works in Austin.
