d berman gallery’s
exhibit of new works by sculptor Tom Hollenback and
painter Joseph Janson is a juxtaposition of opposites.
Unified by an interest in color relationships, Mr.
Hollenback’s precise lines contrast with Mr.
Janson’s exuberant approach to brushstroke.
Tom Hollenback’s
minimal installations play with his viewers’
perceptions of both structural and illusory space.
Elements of their inherent shapes and constructions
are visually accessible only through translucent panels
of Day-Glo plexiglass and lighting. Mr. Hollenback
received his MFA in sculpture from the University
of Texas – San Antonio.
Joseph Janson’s
paintings are explosively extravagant with saturated
color. Abstract imagery and geometric, botanical and
animal forms co-exist in his lively works. This merging
of elements creates vigorous and energetic visual
interaction. Mr. Janson received his MFA in painting
from the San Francisco Art Institute in California.
