Malcolm Bucknall: New Works

“All my works are essentially about magic and transformation—magic representing life’s mysteries and transformation being a way to exaggerate human qualities and interactions so that we recognize their commonality. In addition to the Elizabethan-themed works in this show, several ‘gothic’ subjects reflect current popular culture interests, some with humor. As always I am interested in technique and have continued a recent exploration of black and white oil paintings on archival board emulating photography. I’m never sure what direction the latest painting is pointing to, but in this case, the latest is Willie [Nelson], so I may be searching for other iconic figures. Have artistic license. Can time travel!” -- Malcolm Bucknall
